About UsGolden Generations, Inc. was founded in 1993 by Juanita L. Suber and Valerie Colquitt-Wright, two social workers who wanted to see change in their community. With the support of the Mayor, they unified with community residents to address a critical need for housing and supportive services for seniors in North and West Philadelphia.
In 2003, the office moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. Soon after, Front Porch Florida, a state funded organization in St. Petersburg, requested Golden Generation, Inc.'s assistance in developing and implementing intergenerational programs in the community. Since that time, GGI has collaborated with other community-based organizations, businesses, and residents to continue an intergenerational model of programming. Through these collaborations, Golden Generations has serviced over 700 youth and 450 seniors. During these activities, participants who were soon to “age out” of foster care reported not having stable living arrangements or skills to transition into adulthood. To address this need, GGI transitioned from an intergenerational support program to an intergenerational housing and supportive program now known as My Sistah’s Place. |
