My Sistah's Place is a "collective voice" for youth transitioning out of foster care
After aging out of foster care, most eighteen-year-olds are still in need of support for independent living.
The mission of Golden Generations, Inc.'s My Sistah's Place program (MSP) is to provide a safe and supportive transitional home environment where a variety of services prepares at-risk young women for educational attainment, work readiness, and independent living. Mentor and counseling sessions offer our residents the opportunity to learn decision-making skills, improve their inter-personal relationships, and begin to determine their life goals.
Many young people move from Foster Care to Homelessness as they turn 18.

My Sistah's Place steps in to support young women between the ages of 18-21 who are aging out of, or have already aged out of, the foster care system. We give them love and support -- as well as the educational tools and life skills they need to achieve self-sufficiency. We celebrate their victories and provide a shoulder to lean on when things don’t go as planned. We set consistently high expectations for our participants and equip them for success.
We provide young women with a safe place to live. Participants in MSP are housed in a newly renovated lakefront home for the duration of their stay in program. With a safe and stable place to call home, they can focus more fully on reaching their goals. The home provides a 24/7 seasoned therapist on-site, who provides individual and group counseling on a regular basis.
We support young women to succeed in school, build job skills, and obtain employment. We provide guidance and support to help participants complete their diploma, GED, or other educational goals. We offer hands-on experience and on-the-job training with our business partners to achieve long-term career goals and to learn about entrepreneurial opportunities.
We mentor young women in life skills and help them have confidence in their choices. Mentors facilitate workshops that provide information on financial literacy and management, building wealth, household management, grocery shopping, cooking, nutrition, and other self-sufficiency skills.
